Get To Know New Minnesota Twins Prospect: Zack Littell

The Minnesota Twins acquired Zack Littell from the New York Yankees prior to the 2017 trade deadline. Prior to the trade, the 21-year-old was enjoying a productive campaign split between the High-A and Double-A levels. In a combined 115.1 innings this season, the right-hander has delivered a 1.87 ERA and 8.5 K/9 rate while generating a 52 percent groundball rate. He sports a four-pitch mix and has shown above-average control.

We are pleased that Zack was willing to take time to answer some questions for Talking Twins.

Darrell Yates (DY) What was your initial reaction when you heard that the Twins traded for you?
Zack Littell (ZL) I was surprised. I knew there were rumors going around about a trade but that was all about Sonny Gray so when it ended up being the Twins I was surprised.
(DY) When did you start playing baseball? Was there someone who inspired you to play ball?
(ZL) I started when I was 4 or 5. I grew up playing every sport I could do baseball was just on that list of any sport I could.
(DY) You’re a very talented baseball player. Which other sports are you interested in?
(ZL) I played football in high school and still play golf but I like to watch all sports.
(DY) Growing up, did you have a favorite team and/or player?
(ZL) I grew up a Braves fan and Chipper Jones was my favorite player.
(DY) What MLB pitcher, past or present, does your game resemble?
(ZL) Honestly, I don’t know that I’ve ever compared myself to anybody!
(DY) What was your favorite baseball moment?
(ZL) My favorite moment was getting drafted just because that’s when my career started!
(DY) At what point in your life did you realize that baseball could turn into a professional career?
(ZL) I was well into high school and probably almost halfway through my senior year before that even crossed my mind.
(DY) What areas would you like to improve on as you begin your journey to the Big Leagues?
(ZL) There’s always something I need to improve. I don’t know that I could pick one thing because as soon as I improve one thing there is always another.
(DY) How would you describe the pitches within your arsenal? Which is your favorite?
(ZL) I think all of my pitches are just pitches that I have confidence in. I think any of my pitches can be just as good as the best out there when. I don’t know that I have a favorite!
(DY) What is your favorite baseball movie?
(ZL) Major League is my favorite movie.
(DY) What goals have you set for yourself?
(ZL) My goal every year is to be better than I was the year before. I try and let everything else take care of itself.

I really want to thank Zack Littell for taking the time to answer a few questions for Talking Twins. After speaking with him, I’ve come to the conclusion that this young man has the right attitude, the confidence and the ability to successfully climb through the Twins’ organization. It’s a long journey, but he’s going to be fun to watch.

Go Twins!
